Raphinha shoots down Leeds United transfer conspiracy in emotional message to fans

Raphinha has shot down suggestions his move to Leeds United was against his will.

The Brazilian joined the Whites on deadline day from Rennes but Get France Football News claimed the player was unhappy over having to switch clubs.

Yet, in a farewell post to the Ligue 1 club on Instagram, Raphinha confirmed that it was a mutual decision to move to Elland Road.

He wrote in French: "The time has come to say goodbye and thanks for everything I've experienced in Rennes and France.

"Since my first day in the country, I've been treated very well by everyone and felt at home.

"The project was to stay at the club longer but a great opportunity presented itself, both for me and Rennes, and by mutual agreement we decided it was a good time for me to go looking for new challenges.

"I am also grateful to the club for their trust in my work and for everything the board and fans have brought me in just over a year.

"I wore this shirt with great honour and dedication and made very good friends.

"I will carry Rennes forever in my heart and will forever be grateful for everything.

"Good luck to us. Even from afar I hope the club continues to achieve the goals."

The idea that Raphinha was against the move to Elland Road was also denied by Rennes president Nicolas Holveck.

Speaking to Ouest France, Holveck said it was up to the player whether he would stay or not.

"Raphinha was told on Sunday night that he could stay and that it was his choice," he said.

"Considering the fee and given the bonuses, we will end up with a capital gain.

"Keeping a player against his will is not necessarily a good idea. He would have taken four months to digest the frustration."
