Raphinha's hopes of Brazil debut boosted with bosses hopeful of quarantine compromise

Leeds United winger Raphinha will be hoping to make his international debut next month after he was called up to the Brazil squad for the second time in a row.

The 24-year-old was unable to join up with the squad for his potential debut a few weeks ago after the Premier League ruled that players would not be able to travel to countries on the UK’s red list.

That issue is expected to be resolved this time around after manager Tite selected eight players from the English top-flight to participate in their World Cup qualifiers.

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Juninho Paulista, who is now the Brazil national team’s co-ordinator, expects an agreement to be reached by the relevant parties to allow those players to feature.

"We've had lots of positive meetings with FIFA, the Premier League and the British government, and we trust that there will be a positive solution next week," he said.

"That is why we have called them up."

After Aston Villa and Tottenham’s Argentine contingent decided to go against the Premier League ruling during the last international break, their match against Brazil was sensationally abandoned.

CONMEBOL, the South American football federation, will want to avoid a similar situation this time around so some kind of arrangement must be agreed.

Liverpool were one of the teams who were almost affected by FIFA’s planned five-day ban for all the players who did not fulfil their international call ups.

After almost not having Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino available for selection for their Premier League clash with Leeds, Jurgen Klopp claimed that any issues need to be resolved.

"There must be a solution obviously, because we cannot just leave it like this and say it's not a problem. Yes, it is a problem," said the Reds boss.

"I'm pretty sure the relevant people are working on this. I know they're working on this, but there's nothing decided yet, at least as far as I'm concerned.

"We have a problem when the Brazilians are allowed, or when they go, to the next internationals."

If an agreement is reached where Raphinha joining up with the Brazil squad does not affect his participation for Leeds in the Premier League, then Whites supporters will be hoping to see him make his international debut.

If not, they will be desperate for him to be available for the trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton which follows the international break.
