Raphinha's honest assessment of Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa summed up in one word

There was one stand-out factor in Raphinha's decision to join Leeds United - Marcelo Bielsa.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has been a revelation since arriving in the Premier League for £17million from French Ligue 1 club Rennes last summer, capping off several dazzling performances with five goals and five assists.

It's not just his goals and assists return, though, that has caught the eye and been such a key part in the Whites' rise to 11th place in their first season back in the big time.

Indeed, Raphinha also features high up in the division's running charts, allowing him to adapt instantly to the demands of Bielsa - his universally-renowned Argentine manager.

It's fair to say, though, that both men have had a positive impact on one another, with the Brazilian sensation able to sum up 'El Loco' in just one word - demanding.

During an interview with Sky Sports, ahead of Monday night's clash at West Ham, Raphinha said: "He's a very demanding coach.

"He demands the maximum from all his players and as a result our style of play comes naturally. He always expresses his opinion and likes to hear the opinions of the players so we reach a consensus that benefits the team."

Raphinha added: "I think the style of play of the 'professor' and Leeds really suits my style of play. Thinking about what I do best - my speed and ability with the ball, it's always important that a player is conscious that they must contribute as much in defence as they do in attack.

"It's really important to have a manager who allows you to do what you know, what you've already demonstrated you can do in the past. I believe that when a team signs you, you've been brought in to do what you were doing at your previous club.

"Having a manager, team-mates that give you the freedom do your best, play your own game and show what you're capable of is really important for the natural development of any player."
