Raphinha on par with Liverpool's Mo Salah and Lionel Messi as Leeds United's away day specialist

Leeds United's Raphinha could hardly have endeared himself to a new set of supporters any better than he already has done.

Nine goal involvements in 18 appearances is a sterling performance for a player with no experience of the English top flight, not least for someone who was relatively settled until transfer deadline day.

Raphinha has since revealed he was uprooted from Stade Rennais in France where he believed his future was secure. Instead the Ligue 1 side deemed him replaceable, after adding teenager Jeremy Doku to their ranks.

Rennes' loss - and subsequent elimination from the UEFA Champions League Group Stage - has been Leeds United's gain, with Raphinha dazzling more and more each week.

The Brazilian has, much like his style of play, moved rapidly to the summit of Leeds United supporters' collective opinion.

Individual bouts of brilliance, such as the ingenious swivel-and-nutmeg of Gary Cahill and solo strike versus West Bromwich Albion have been backed up by some extremely hard-working performances.

The 24-year-old is lightning quick off the mark, but has also recorded more sprints than any other Leeds United player in half of the games he has played. This is a ringing endorsement of the Brazilian's ceaseless endeavour.

In front of goal, Raphinha has been decisive, outlined by the latest findings by Opta statistician and Leeds United supporter Jonny Cooper.

To be keeping pace with the likes of Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah despite playing in a far less superior team is not exactly bad going, even when Leeds' ruthless attacking is taken into account.

It also appears to be no fluke either; Raphinha has registered 3.4 xA (Expected Assists) since signing for the club, according to FBRef.com, which can only be bettered by Mateusz Klich and Jack Harrison this season.

Notably, Harrison and Klich have played somewhere in the region of 400 minutes more than the Brazilian.

This means Raphinha would have been expected to record three or four assists for his Leeds teammates based on the quality of chances he provides. His tally of five suggests a marginal overperformance, but one that could be sustained over the remainder of the season.
