Manchester United summer signing Raphael Varane felt he had a good level of communication with central-defensive partner Harry Maguire after he made his debut in Sunday's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Awarded his first outing in United colours since joining the club in a big-money deal from Spanish giants Real Madrid just over a fortnight ago, Varane produced a solid performance in the heart of the defence to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side secure their first clean sheet of the season.
The Frenchman looked strong and commanding throughout the contest, heading away almost everything that came his way and leading by example at the back, alongside skipper Maguire.
Varane is expected to become a mainstay in Solskjaer's side this season, meaning a strong partnership with Maguire will be key to helping United build from the back in their quest for Premier League title success this term.
Although he has only played once alongside the former Leicester City man, Varane was pleased with how their debut outing as a paring went.
Asked how he felt his central-defensive partnership with the England defender will develop, Varane told United's club website : "Very good. He’s a good player.
"We had good communication, that’s very important, and the same spirit: to fight and to win the game."
Both Varane and Maguire are going to be expected to be leaders within this United side this season, with their physicality and experience likely to come in useful on numerous occasions.
Should they soon strike a bond and a useful partnership, it will allow the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and incoming signing Cristiano Ronaldo to weave their magic at the top end of the pitch and know they have a good level of security behind them.
