Raphael Varane has 'given his word' to Manchester United over transfer and more rumours

Raphael Varane has 'given his word' that he wants to join Manchester United, according to reports.

After a slow start to the summer, United's transfer window burst to life this past week with the signing of Tom Heaton and the announcement that a deal has been agreed with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.

After finally signing their top target, United will now turn their focus on strengthening their backline and the Manchester Evening News understands the club are considering signing two centre-backs.

Real Madrid star Varane is the top target and it's understood that United are making progress on the deal, although Los Blancos are holding out for an £80million fee even though the 28-year-old is out of contract next year.

The Spanish giants were keen to extend Varane's trophy-laden decade spell in the capital but saw two contract offers rejected as he felt there was still a disparity between his salary offer and what Madrid's best-paid players earn.

Now, according to Spanish publication Sport, via SportWitness, Varane has indicated that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

It's reported that the Frenchman has 'given his word' to the club that he wants to join, but now it's up to them to reach an agreement with Madrid.

While there appears to be a gap in the two clubs' valuations at present, the report adds that Varane's departure is 'inevitable.'

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with Paul Pogba regarding a potential transfer, according to Foot Mercato.

The French World Cup winner has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United, with Pogba free to discuss pre-contractual terms with clubs outside of England from January 1st if a new deal isn't secured.

However, the report suggests the talks were regarding an immediate transfer this summer, with PSG looking to land a marquee addition.
