Raphael Varane and Sancho start - Predicted Manchester United starting line-up vs Tottenham

Manchester United will be looking to put last weekend's horror-show against Liverpool behind them when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Spurs on Saturday teatime.

United, who were 3-1 winners on their last visit to the home of Nuno Espirito Santo's side, will be desperate to get back to winning ways and end both what has been a turbulent week and four-game winless run in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has so far survived Sunday's 5-0 hammering, will be under no illusions of just how much pressure will be on him and his players' shoulders to ensure they get back on track, meaning anything less than a victory could have costly consequences.

His starting line-up in the capital has the potential to be the most scrutinised of his tenure as United manager, with no shortage of players under pressure to turn their own personal fortunes around.

Fortunately, the Norwegian has been boosted by the returns of French duo Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial from injury, meaning they may creep into his thoughts.

Although Solskjaer will have some big decisions to make, David de Gea is a certain starter in goal. Although he has only kept one clean sheet so far this season, the Spaniard has been one of the Reds' best performers this term and will start between the sticks.

The back-four, which has been guilty of conceding 11 goals in United's last three games, is likely to be where the first change comes in, with Varane poised to return to the starting line-up, most probably at the expense of Victor Lindelof. Harry Maguire, in the eyes of many, should be dropped after his performance last weekend, but he is likely to keep his place, meaning he and Varane will most probably be flanked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw either side of them.

Although Paul Pogba is suspended for the trip to north London, Solskjaer is still spoilt for choice in midfield and it is one area of the team where the supporters, in particular, are desperate to see changes come into force. However, despite being powerless to stop Liverpool last weekend, it is likely that United will line-up without Scott McTominay and Fred at the base of the midfield, meaning they will be tasked with trying to screen the defensive rearguard behind them. Donny van de Beek will no doubt be targeting a starting berth, but it does seem hard to see it happening, even if he does deserve a chance.

Ahead of McTominay and Fred, Solskjaer may consider further changes, especially on the right-wing. Mason Greenwood looked off the pace against Liverpool and now may be considered as the ideal time to hand Jadon Sancho the chance to nail down that right-wing berth and make it his own. Alongside Sancho in the advanced attacking-midfield three, it is likely that Bruno Fernandes will retain his place, despite his recent patchy form, with Marcus Rashford expected to line-up on the left.

Cristiano Ronaldo, although the goals have not flown as frequently as he would have liked of late, is also likely to retain his place and spearhead the attack.

Predicted United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo.
