Raoul Moat victim’s sister hits out at ITV over new drama about fugitive shotgun monster

Horrified relatives of one of Raoul Moat’s victims have slammed a new ITV drama about the crazed shotgun killer.

Moat gunned down ex Samantha Stobbart, her new boyfriend and a PC – eventually shooting himself after Britain’s biggest manhunt in 2010.

ITV claim The Hunt For Raoul Moat will be one of the year’s biggest dramas when it is broadcast this month.

But last night Samantha’s sister Kelly, 40, told us: “We’re lucky our Sam survived. ITV don’t realise the impact this will have on the people involved.”

“It still gives me nightmares and I suffer PTSD.

“I’m so sick of hearing Raoul’s name, and I’m so sick of him being on TV. I hate seeing his face on social media and then having to read all the comments people make about Sam.

“So many people blame her for what happened on social media and troll her. This is something we can never forget but we would like to move on from it.

“I was only made aware of this latest drama when I was tagged in a post the Evening Chronicle shared about it. My whole family and I all feel that it should be left in the past.

“As well as protecting Sam, I have children who weren’t around in 2010. I’m trying to protect them from this. My daughter has just turned 18 and she remembers being taken from our home to the hotel when it all happened.”

Sam’s other sister Claire, who lives in Tenerife, also laid into the ITV drama on her social media profile.

She wrote: “It’s always the same, every year they’re trying to make a few quid. Dramas, documentaries. By 2030, it’ll be a film.”

Samantha, who had a daughter with Moat, was critically ill after Moat blasted her in the stomach and considered suicide. Doctors said she would have died if her arm had not partly blocked the shot.

Moat – a hero to internet sickos – is played by Bodyguard and Misfits star Matthew Stokoe in the three-part drama, which was filmed last year.

The 37-year-old cop hating bouncer began his killing spree in Gateshead two days after leaving Durham jail where he served an 18-week sentence for assaulting a nine-year-old relative.

He killed his ex’s new boyfriend Chris Brown and then turned his sawn-off shotgun on her before going on the run for six days.

He shot traffic cop David Rathband as he sat in his patrol car – blinding him. The PC later killed himself.

After a stand-off with armed cops on a riverbank, Moat shot himself in the head near Rothbury, Northumberland.

It is understood that show bosses consulted Chris’s family. ITV said: “World Productions reached out to all families affected by Moat’s crimes”.

They also notified Moat’s family but Sam’s was not involved.
