Ranvir Singh opened up about a “difficult” night as she discussed the UK’s ongoing heatwave on Good Morning Britain.
The broadcaster, who was fronting the ITV breakfast show alongside Tom Swarbrick, admitted the soaring overnight temperatures had made getting any rest a challenge.
Welcoming viewers back after a weather update, she said: “I certainly hope you got some hours last night. It was a tropical — I think actually officially was a tropical night in many places. It was difficult, wasn’t it?” she asked her co-host.
Swarbrick appeared ready for cooler temperatures, replying: “I think that’s why we need it to end. It’s been lovely having it, hasn’t it? A couple of days of this kind of heat, but we’re done now.”
But Singh was quick to pour cold water on that hope. “I hate to break it to you. It’s not the end of the heatwave,” she said, before noting the UK had just recorded its hottest ever May temperature, with highs of 34.8C.
“The Met Office says that this level of heat would be exceptional even at the height of a really good British summer,” she added.
The all-time high was reached in London on Tuesday at 35C, smashing the previous May peak which stood at 32.8C reached in 1922 and 1944.
Later in the programme, Singh found herself in an awkward moment after mistakenly asking Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin whether he was from Brazil.
The Ukrainian dancer, who joined the BBC show in 2021 and has previously spoken about the war in his homeland, mentioned he had recently returned from a trip to Brazil while discussing his downtime between his upcoming tour and the next series of Strictly.
“Yes, I do take some time off. I’ve been to Brazil recently which was really, really lovely,” he said.
Singh then asked: “Is that where you’re from, no?”
Kuzmin smiled awkwardly as he corrected her: “No, I’m from Ukraine. On the other side of the globe.”
Attempting to move the conversation on, Singh asked whether he still had family in Ukraine and how they were coping.
“Yes I do,” he replied. “Well, they are OK. They are OK.”
Swarbrick acknowledged the ongoing conflict, saying: “It’s been a horrendous few years.”
Kuzmin added: “Yeah. It’s obviously a war and conflict that is not spoken about as much in the media, but it’s very much ongoing and if you see any sort of video, pictures, anywhere online, stuff is happening every single day. Way more than people know.”
Trying to end the exchange on a warmer note, Singh told him: “They must be proud of you.”
“Yes, they absolutely are,” he replied. “They’re my family, so you know.”
