Ranvir Singh rushed to hospital for 'urgent surgery' after mistaking deadly symptom for 'stomach ache'

Ranvir Singh has revealed she was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after suffering a ruptured appendix.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 47, was forced to pull out of hosting Lorraine on Friday after experiencing sudden and severe stomach pain that turned out to be far more serious than she first thought.

Sharing the news with fans on Instagram, Singh posted a photo from earlier in the week wearing a white linen suit on set.

“Had a fab time as always hosting @lorraine last Wednesday wearing this gorgeous linen white pinstripe suit, felt a bit drained and foggy in the morning but nothing a couple of coffees couldn't sort out.,” she began her caption.

But within hours of coming off air, her condition worsened. “'I'm off air - all good - at 1030am I feel this sudden stomach ache. I stay in bed all day. Turns out I had a ruptured appendix and had urgent surgery at midnight on Thursday!”

Despite waking up from surgery early the next morning and thinking she could return to work, the presenter said the seriousness of the infection quickly became clear.

She continued: “Woke up 5am on Friday morning, high on anaesthetic and certain I could get into work to host the show as normal..

“Pretty nasty few days, the bacteria had spread and infected my blood etc and told to take this week off by @jadeens.”

The broadcaster also shared that she’s recovering at home but struggling with pain and frustration.

“I'm sore and shuffling around, can't drive for a week, and no exercise for 4 weeks (! ) so really it's the boredom that will kill me!” she added.

She ended the post by asking followers if they'd experienced the same unexpected side effect she had: “Ps. Anyone else have this horrendous shoulder pain afterwards? It’s mad isn’t it!”

On Friday, Lorraine viewers were met with a surprise on as Andi Peters stepped in last minute to host the show.

Addressing her absence on air, Peters shared: “First thing's first, I've just got to say get well soon to Ranvir, who can't be here today.”

Bringing his trademark humour, he added: “Which is why they've drafted in a man in a bright orange shirt, just to make sure you're awake this morning.”

He ended with a warm note: “Get well soon Ranvir, we send you all of our love.”

Singh’s hospital dash comes as host Lorraine Kelly underwent surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.

The ITV presenter first revealed news of the procedure in a video from her hospital bed earlier this month, and reassured fans that the procedure was done for “purely preventative” reasons.

The 65-year-old wrote on Instagram last Wednesday: “Thanx for all your lovely messages I'm recovering well.

“So proud of my top team – punching above our weight and bucking the trend. Just heard our ratings are up – we had the highest March for four years. Thanks @vixkennedy and the gang! Always know how to cheer me up”.

Kelly previously posted a photo from Heatherwood Hospital, where she had the operation, posing with medical staff and wearing a T-shirt in tribute to her late friend, campaigner Dame Deborah James.

“Huge thanks to these kind, caring, gorgeous professionals who took care of me at @heatherwoodhospital – back home now and following doctors’ orders to rest up,” she wrote.

“My surgeon Mr Ahmed Rafaat has been so reassuring throughout – and I can’t thank the whole team enough!”

The operation, known medically as a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, is often done to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.
