NEW DELHI: SpiceJet has delayed announcing its January-March, 2022, financial result due to the recent ransomware attack it had recently suffered. The result was to be declared on May 30.
“…we are expecting delay in submission of audited standalone and consolidated financial results of the company for financial year ended March 31, 2022… due to ransomware attack on our IT systems which has affected the completion of the audit process within the stipulated time. The company is taking the corrective measures with assistance of cyber experts and authorities on the issue,” SpiceJet said in a regulatory filing Friday.
“Accordingly, the board meeting of the company scheduled to be held on May 30, 2022, is being postponed and the revised date… will be communicated shortly,” it added.
Scores of SpiceJet flights this Wednesday morning were delayed due to the ransomware attack on the airline’s systems on Tuesday night. A SpiceJet spokesperson had said: “Certain SpiceJet systems faced an attempted ransomware attack (Tuesday) night that impacted and slowed down morning flight departures (on Wednesday). Our IT team has contained and rectified the situation and flights are operating normally now.”
Ransomware is a type of malware attack in which the attacker locks and encrypts the victim's data, important files and then demands a payment to unlock and decrypt the data.
