CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has a issued notice to the Punjab government on a plea seeking CBI probe into the death of a 26-yearold son of Pathankot-based BJP leader, late Thuru Ram Katal. The HC has also directed the state police to produce the status report regarding the investigation of the case by November 17.
Justice Sudip Ahluwalia issued the notice after hearing a plea filed by Vinay Katal, elder brother of deceased. Vishal’s body was found in Kathlore sanctuary near the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir border in February 2020. He had been missing for about a fortnight and his brother had received a call demanding Rs 40 lakh ransom. Vishal’s post-mortem report revealed death due to injuries.
In his plea before the HC, Vinay, 30, a resident of Phoolpur village in Pathankot district of Punjab, sought directions for transfer of investigation in case related to the kidnapping and murder of his brother to an independent probing agency like CBI or crime branch since his brother, after being kidnapped, was mercilessly and brutally done to death by the kidnappers.
According to the petitioner, his brother was kidnapped on January 17, 2020 and found murdered on February 4, 2020 .
