Ranskill fire: Fire service issues key update into major Nottinghamshire blaze

Nottinghmashire Fire and Rescue have released an update as crews are expected to fight a massive blaze over the weekend. Firefighters were called to reports of the fire in Ranskill, near Retford, on Friday (August 5) before 11am.

Photos and footage from the scene depict thick, black smoke billowing into the sky. Up to ten fire engines were called out, including Mansfield's Aerial Ladder Platform.

People have been asked to avoid the area, and to shut windows and doors if they can see or smell smoke. Thousands of tyres caught alight on Station Road in Ranskill, it has been confirmed.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene throughout the weekend. In a video describing the scene, Area Manager and Incident Commander Andy Macey said: "We are here at a major incident on Station Road and Ranskill. You can see behind me the significant smoke plume from a fire involving thousands of tyres at a scrapyard and dismantles yard.

"We are asking the public to stay away from the area. We are going to be here all weekend so we are asking you to stay away from the area all weekend. And if you are in the vicinity of smoking, please stay indoors with your windows and doors shut."
