Ranking the 10 best 2023 NBA schedule release videos, including the Trail Blazers’ mystifying infomercial

The 2023 NBA regular season schedules are officially here, as fans get a chance to see how their favorite teams will navigate the upcoming year in basketball.

One of the best traditions around schedule releases now are teams creating videos to unveil the slate, some of which are either totally hilarious and/or really inventive.

We’ve ranked our 10 favorite NBA schedule release videos from this year and detailed a little bit about why we made the picks. There are plenty of great videos to choose from, but these 10 caught our attention specifically.

Let’s break down which videos made the cut from this year’s contenders.

10. Miami Heat

The Heat had a clever way to share their schedule as they turned it into a job interview simulation. This is pretty outside-the-box, so we’ll give points for creativity here.

9. Orlando Magic

The Magic kept it short and sweet by paying homage to the beloved computer game Line Rider to unveil their schedule this year. Honestly, does this make anyone want to go play Line Rider? It sure does for us.

8. Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks shared their schedule by having people take basketball shots with opposing teams logos on them. As you can guess, the shots didn’t necessarily go well. This was a funny way of trolling the other team before you even play them while having some fun playing hoops in the process.

7. New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans created a short film to share their schedule starring C.J. McCollum and actor Jaleel White. This was a delightful way to share the schedule with Pelicans fans, and it certainly entertained the rest of us.

6. Indiana Pacers

The Pacers borrowed from the social media trend of dropping containers of things down the stairs and watching them break to unveil their schedule this year. It’s always mesmerizing to watch these types of videos.

5. Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies kept it very simple and used a mighty grizzly bear just fishing for NBA logos. This one involves a very good bear, so it ranks very high on our list. Memphis should do this next year, but with another type of bear.

4. Minnesota Timberwolves

So the Timberwolves did what the Pacers did, but it was way funnier. It gives you the satisfaction of the containers-rolling-down-the-stairs video sensation while also hitting you right in the funny bone. Great work, T’Wolves.

3. Brooklyn Nets

The Nets borrowed from the same strategy the Tennessee Titans used to share their schedule in May and asked folks to name what NBA teams were by their logos. The results are spectacular and hilarious.

2. Chicago Bulls

Gotta catch ’em all, right? The Bulls just about won this year’s schedule release with this fantastic, very thorough Pokémon homage. However, there was just one schedule release video that topped it.

1. Portland Trail Blazers

Oh my goodness. The Trail Blazers blew the competition out of the water with this utterly fascinating 90s infomercial from the fifth dimension. It’s almost like an Adult Swim short, taking the viewer on a very strange journey that features cheap graphics, mascots and a soothing voice over.

This isn’t just a schedule release video; this is legitimate art. Someone needs to get the folks behind this on another short film, stat! We’d watch it.
