Ranking Panthers HC Frank Reich’s daps with 2023 QB prospects

Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich has said a lot of nice things about the top quarterback prospects of the 2023 NFL draft. But have Reich’s recent actions actually tipped his hand?

Reich’s daps—or elaborate handshakes—became quite a thing during the team’s expansive pro day tour. So—in using our buddy Doug Farrar’s look into Seattle’s selfies as inspiration—let’s get a little silly, have some fun and break down the chumminess with the candidates for this year’s No. 1 overall pick.

Here’s how we ranked all of Reich’s daps from the past two weeks.

4
Will Levis

Reich gets in and out here. He makes brief eye contact with Levis only to initiate the dap, doesn’t reengage and moves right on to the hatted gentleman beside him. All business.

3
Anthony Richardson

Reich is similarly quick to come off the “bring it in” portion. But unlike his dap with Levis, he turns back around to get a few more words in with a smiley Richardson.

2
Bryce Young

Here’s where the tide (ba dum tsss) starts to turn.

Reich opens up his body and gets a little square with Young on the hug—something we didn’t see for Levis or Richardson. He’s also slower to come off the warmer embrace.

1
C.J. Stroud

Stroud gets the most attention—the eye contact, the turn-in and the post-hug eye contact. Reich doesn’t even start to move away from him right after coming off the embrace, as he did with the other three prospects, and even steps it back for the extended exchange.

Oh, and as a bonus, did anyone else get a borderline back massage and an invitation to a game of HORSE in Charlotte from quarterbacks coach Josh McCown . . . ?
