Ahead of their Ranji Trophy Group A opener against Tripura, Odisha captain Govinda Poddar had hoped for the match to be played in Agartala. Unfortunately his prayers were unanswered.
The match was called off without a ball being bowled at Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium due to bad weather and wet outfield on all four days (Oct 11-14). Continuous rains leading up to the match had already rendered the outfield pretty unplayable, as Poddar had told TOI prior to the game, which made sure no play was possible throughout the four-day tie.
Odisha and Tripura both earned a point each from the abandoned encounter. Odisha fly back home to host Jammu & Kashmir at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack from Friday.
Tripura will travel to Shillong to take on Meghalaya in their next match at Meghalaya Cricket Association Cricket Ground, Polo Ground. The other teams in the group are Services, Baroda, Maharashtra and Mumbai.
