Ranji Trophy: Armaan Jaffer century helps Mumbai take lead

Domestic run-machine Sarfaraz Khan suffered a rare failure (5), but Armaan Jaffer stepped up, slamming a fabulous 116 not out (267b, 16x4, 1x6) —his third First-Class century—to steer Mumbai to a first innings lead against Andhra in their 2022-23 Ranji Trophy match at the Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram on Wednesday.

Thanks to Jaffer's brilliant knock, Mumbai, despite losing wickets on a regular basis at one point, were 290 for 6 at stumps on Day Two, having taken a 52-run lead after Andhra scored 238 on Day 1. The match was delicately poised when Mumbai lost Shams Mulani (10) with the score at 225 for 6, before Jaffer and off-spinning allrounder Tanush Kotian (43 not out, 58b, 5x4, 1x6), who had taken 4-91 earlier, added 65 in 120 balls for the seventh wicket in an unfinished stand to put the visitors in control.

Brief Scores: Andhra 238 vs Mumbai 290-6 (Armaan Jaffer 116*, Yashasvi Jaiswal 45, Ajinkya Rahane 44, Tanush Kotian 43*; KV Sasikanth 3-50)
