Ranieri gets another vote of confidence

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has received a second vote of confidence in a fortnight from Valencia president Juan Soler.

The La Liga side could only manage a dull goalless draw with Real Zaragoza on Saturday, after Ranieri opted to switch to a new diamond formation.

After the game Ranieri admitted that his players would need time to adapt to the new system, but, without a win in 10 games, the fans are fast losing patience.

However, Soler has leapt to the defence of his manager. "I have never questioned Ranieri," he told a meeting of Valencia shareholders.

"I don't like to ratify people in their positions, but we have never questioned Ranieri's work."

It is the second time the club has publicly backed their manager in a fortnight, after the 1-0 defeat by Getafe the previous week.

Valencia, who won the title last year under the guidance of Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, led the table early on in the season, but have picked up just two points in their last five games, leaving them languishing in eighth spot.

They were also knocked out of the Cope del Rey by Second Division side Lleida, and look almost certain to be eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage.
