Rangers youngster wins FA Trophy with Harrogate Town - who will only hold title for three weeks

Rangers youngster Josh McPake has won his first piece of silverware after Harrogate Town's FA Trophy win - but the club will only be holders for three weeks.

The 19-year-old Coatbridge starlet, who is on loan at the English League Two outfit, guided Town to a 1-0 win over National League South side Concord Rangers at Wembley yesterday to claim the first senior honour of his career.

McPake joined in the celebrations with his team-mates as they claimed the trophy in front of an empty stadium and they will need to make the most of being the reigning champions, as the tie determined the 2019-20 winners, with the fixture postponed from last season due to the pandemic.

Hereford and Hornchurch will contest this season's final on May 22, so Harrogate won't hold the trophy for long.

As it was, it was another familiar Josh who grabbed the headlines - with former St Johnstone and Abroath midfielder Josh Falkingham netting the winning goal for Town 14 minutes from time with his first goal of the season.

Ahead of the final, McPake told the Rangers website how much he was looking forward to the opportunity.

He said: "I have this cup final at Wembley and I can’t wait to play there

“It will be amazing to play at such a famous stadium and it would be great for the Harrogate Town supporters if we could win it for them.

“It will be strange to play with no fans at such a big stadium.

"The club had hoped to change the date and get fans in but it couldn't be moved so I was a bit gutted about that. It would have been some experience to play in front of a crowd at Wembley but we will do all we can to try and get a positive result."

McPake, who has scored four goals in 24 appearances, has helped his to 16th in League Two and they bring the curtain down on their season on Saturday away to Cheltenham.
