Rangers Women boss insists there is NO discipline problem ahead of Celtic showdown after 'headbutt' flashpoint

Rangers Women boss Malky Thomson insists there is not a disciplinary problem within the side as they prepare to face Celtic.

The last time the sides faced off in the SWPL1 tensions boiled over when Ibrox coach Craig McPherson appeared to aim a headbutt at Hoops boss Fran Alonso after the final whistle, with the Spaniard also claiming that McPherson had called him a “little rat.” The furious reaction came after Rangers had been denied all three points after Caitlin Hayes’ strike nine minutes into time added on that led to wild scenes of celebration on the Celtic bench.

McPherson has since issued a public apology to Alonso and the Rangers support and will not be in the dugout for the clash at the K-Park on Thursday night as he serves the final game of the six-game band dished out by the SFA. Ahead of the fixture, Thomson fielded questions over the heated row last time out.

He told Sky Sports: "I think given the way we have conducted ourselves over the full season, and the girls are well disciplined, they know to respect the club and our opponents. There is no issues in that regard."

Defending champions Rangers are five points off the pace in the SWPL1 title race and must defeat the Hoops to keep the title race alive. Glasgow City lead the race while Celtic Women are just two points off top spot.
