Rangers withdraw St Mirren postponement request as clarity on date arrives

Rangers have withdrawn their request to postpone the Premiership clash with St Mirren ahead of a potential Champions League play-off.

It had already been intimated that the Ibrox men had invoked their right to postpone a game in the build up to a European tie for the Paisley clash. If they make it through against Viktoria Plzen, the two legs of the play-off will come either side of the scheduled date of the Buddies game.

However, Russell Martin yesterday cast some doubt on the situation when he claimed no decision had been made and the intention was to play the game that weekend as planned.

Now, the SPFL and Rangers have both confirmed Rangers have withdrawn their postponement request and will play St Mirren on Sunday August 24.

A spokesperson for the league said: "Following further discussions with Rangers, St Mirren, and relevant stakeholders, we can confirm that Rangers have withdrawn their request to postpone their William Hill Premiership Round 3 match against St Mirren if they reach the play-off round of the Champions League.

"The match will now take place as originally planned on Sunday, August 24, kick-off 12 noon, with the game to be shown live on Sky Sports."

A Rangers statement added: "Rangers can confirm our request to potentially postpone our Scottish Premiership match with St Mirren later this month has been withdrawn.

The game will now take place at 12noon on Sunday, August 24 at the SMiSA Stadium and be broadcast live by Sky Sports.

Ticket information will be released to supporters in due course.
