Rangers winger links addressed by Hamilton Accies boss as he targets more signings

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin insists reports linking him with a move for Rangers winger Josh McPake are wide of the mark, but he is keen to add yet more signings to his burgeoning squad.

Rankin took his new summer signings spree to 10 yesterday when midfielder Connor Murray followed hot on the heels of Hibs loanee Dylan Tait's arrival on Monday.

Accies have been linked with a move for McPake and were reported to be competing with Alloa to try and bring him in on loan from the Ibrox club, where he has no sign of a look in during the final year of his contract.

McPake spent last term playing against Accies on loan at Queen's Park in the Championship and while Rankin knows what qualities the 21-year-old would bring, he says it isn't one he has his eye on.

Asked if McPake is a target, Rankin said: "I don't know where that has come from, but he is not one we've spoken about - and he's not even a player who has been offered to us.

"We played against Josh last season and we know what he is all about, but it is not one we've been discussing."

McPake may not been on the radar, but Accies are pursuing two more players to bolster the squad for the League One campaign kicking off next month at home to Cove Rangers.

So far the New Douglas Park outfit have signed defenders Lee Kilday, Jackson Longridge, Kyle MacDonald, Stephen Hendrie and midfielders Jamie Barjonas, Euan Henderson, Tait and Murray, along with strikers Kevin O'Hara and Joe McGlynn. Added to that are new deals for midfielder Scott Martin and defender Reghan Tumilty.

But Rankin isn't finished. He said: "We have set our sights on a couple more.

"We've pinpointed an area we want to strengthen and we've spoken about it a bit over the last couple of weeks.

"There's no point in rushing it. We want to get it right.

"We have spoken to a number of different people and now it is about casting that net a bit smaller and making sure we get the right ones in.

"When you bring so many players in, it is important that they are right for the group as well as for the team.

"We've got really good guys in the dressing room and we don't want to bring someone in who will dampen that."
