Rangers winger Glenn Middleton desperate to put loan nightmares behind him as admits to learning curve

Glenn Middleton insists he has learned from adversity this season after the flying winger failed to make a mark in either of his two loan spells away from Rangers.

The young wideman was was sent out to get some games under his belt at the start of the season by Steven Gerrard.

But he only made six starts at Hibs during the first half of the season as he failed to make a strong impression at Easter Road.

And sadly, it has been a similar story at League Two Bradford, with the Scotland Under-21 international restricted to a total of three appearances for Stuart McCall ’s outfit.

However, the 20-year-old is adamant he will still be better off from having endured a frustrating campaign.

He said: “I’ve been on two loans this season and although at times it might not have been smooth sailing for me, I’ve definitely learned a lot.

“I’m desperate to really put my mark down and show everyone what I’m capable of on a football pitch.

“I’m still learning, I’m still young, but at the same time I’m desperate to play football – but that’s up to me, I need to put in the performances to show the manager so that he can trust me to do so.

“I’ve got high expectations of myself, which is why you play for big clubs who have high expectations of their players and it’s down to me to put performances on every week.

“I am raring to go and get some games under my belt.”

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Middleton insists the disappointment of this season will also help make him mentally stronger.

He added: “Every league that you play in has its different challenges, I think it’s just about how quickly, as a player, you can adapt.

“I think that’s one of the benefits of going out on loan as a young player, learning all of these things.

“On and off the pitch, you’re gonna have to learn to deal with things, but that’s what it’s all about, developing as a player and especially as a person in different situations that you come across.”
