Rangers winger Eros Grezda shoots down Albanian FA's reason for his withdrawal

Rangers winger Eros Grezda has insisted he has withdrawn from the Albanian squad because of a 'muscle injury' despite his own FA confirming he pulled out due to personal reasons.

The £2 million signing's future at Ibrox is in doubt after a disappointing first season at Rangers, where he failed to make much of an impact.

His agent admitted last week his Rangers career is unclear as talks with Steven Gerrard are scheduled and he's now suffered plenty of media criticism in his homeland after leaving the Albanian squad ahead of their Euro 2020 double-header with Iceland and Moldova.

The Albanian FA revealed Grezda had withdrawn from the squad due to 'personal reasons' at the weekend, but the player himself has now declared his absence is because of injury.

Grezda said: "I have a problem with my adductor muscles. It's a muscle injury.

"I risk further damage if I continue training and I have decided to pull out of the squad.

"I am telling the truth."

But Grezda's departure has led to a storm of criticism in his homeland with Albanian media pointing out that the Rangers player took part in full training all weekend.

But the 24-year-old won't feature in the first match of new Albania manager Edoardo Reja, who has yet to comment on Grezda's position.
