Rangers win branded 'lucky' as Willem II skipper insists they have to blame themselves

Rangers have been accused of getting lucky in their comfortable win over Willem II in the Europa League.

Tricolores skipper Jordens Peters insists the away side had lady luck on their side when they managed to score four of their five shots on target.

The other of that five was Alfredo Morelos' long range strike that was spilled by Robin Ruitter for Ryan Kent to score. Rangers romped to a 4-0 win in the Netherlands against their hosts, who were confident before the game of causing an upset.

But the Dutch side couldn't accept the scoreline reflected the game.

Peters said: "They had five chances and scored four of them. The result is not an accurate reflection of the game.

"We had plenty of chances ourselves too, but if you don't score them, the difference is big. You have to take them at this level.

"Our plan was to try and pick Rangers off on the break. but individual errors killed us.

"Rangers are a good team, but it was our mistakes which made them dangerous and helped them.

"That was a very hard learning experience for us."

Meanwhile, Dutch police arrested six people after a stash of illegal fireworks were found beside Willem II's stadium.

Their fans attempted to disrupt Rangers' preparations for the game by letting off fireworks outside the team's hotel in Eindhoven the night before the tie and had planned another display during the game.
