Rangers will rival Celtic's Lisbon Lions if they land Europa League crown this season, insists Kenny Miller

KENNY MILLER insists Rangers will rival Celtic's historic Lisbon Lions if they go on to win the Europa League this season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team booked their spot in the showpiece final in Seville on Thursday as they defeated RB Leipzig at Ibrox.

Frankfurt are now the only team between the Light Blues and a potential Europen trophy, and former Gers striker Miller reckons winning the trophy would rival European achievements of the past.

He told the Daily Record: “If Rangers win it, it would be right up there with Celtic’s Lisbon Lions in 1967 and the Barca Bears in 1972. I understand that the European Cup is the big prize which Celtic won and that stands alone.

“The Cup Winners’ Cup victory for Rangers was also a huge feat but there was a more level playing field in Europe back then, with regards to finance and sometimes you only had four or five ties to reach a final.

“Thursday night’s win over RB Leipzig was this Rangers team’s 18th game in Europe this season. That’s half a domestic season in some countries. It was Rangers’ 60th game in total.

“In this day and age, for a Scottish club to be competing at this level is incredible.

“Based on all logic, it just shouldn’t be happening but Gio’s side have stood up to any team in their way.

“They’ve said: ‘We don’t care what you’re worth or what you earn, we’re going to outperform you.’

“If they can see this through, these players and this group of people will be immortalised.

“I’m respectful and honest. The wins in ‘67 and ‘72 will never be forgotten. They were phenomenal moments for both clubs. The Lions and the Bears will live forever in the clubs’ histories.

“But if they win it? It would be one of the biggest achievements ever.”
