Rangers wait on Arsenal attendance decision as Hibs crowd number prompts fears over size

Rangers are still awaiting a decision on how many supporters will be allowed inside Ibrox for their pre-season friendly with Arsenal.

Steven Gerrard's side will take on the Premier League outfit on July 17, just four days after Arsenal face Hibs in a similar friendly at Easter Road.

The club are hoping to have a sizeable crowd inside the ground for the first time since March 2020 but must await a final decision from the authorities.

Rangers have applied for more than the 500 which would be permitted in Level 2, with Scotland predicted to skip to level 0 two days after the friendly.

At that stage there would be 2000 allowed inside the ground but Rangers still hope to have more than inside Ibrox on July 17.

But Hibs have been allowed just 2000 for their game at Easter Road on July 13 after a decision by the City of Edinburgh Council.

That is around 10 per cent of the capacity of the stadium and if a similar decision is made for Ibrox, it would allow just 5000 supporters in for the game.

The match is being held as part of Rangers 150th anniversary celebrations and they hope they'll be able to have more inside the ground.

The game will also see Kieran Tierney return to face his old rivals at Ibrox for the first time since leaving Celtic in 2019.
