One of the fiercest rivalries in world football reignites today as Rangers and Celtic clash in the first Old Firm derby of the new season at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s hosts sauntered to their first Scottish Premiership title for 10 years last term, stopping their Glasgow rivals from winning an historic 10th in a row in the process.
However, it hadn’t been the most impressive start to the 2021/22 campaign from Rangers following defeat by Dundee United and in Champions League qualification against Malmo, but they now appear back on track after thumping wins over Dunfermline and Ross County as well as progression through to the Europa League group stages.
It’s been a similar opening from Celtic, who made a tricky start to life under new manager Ange Postecoglou, losing to newly-promoted Hearts and having their Champions League hopes quickly wrecked by FC Midtjylland.
But like their rivals, they have bounced back, hitting both Dundee and St Mirren for six and gaining revenge on Hearts in the League Cup, while also reaching the Europa League proper despite a second-leg defeat against AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands.
