Rangers beat rivals Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season at Ibrox
(Picture: ES Composite)Rangers took bragging rights once again in the first Old Firm derby of the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership season on Sunday afternoon.
Filip Helander’s emphatic close-range header from a corner 25 minutes from time proved to be the winning goal at a bouncing Ibrox.
The defending champions have now won six of the last seven games against their fiercest rivals, to whom they have not lost since 2019.
Steven Gerrard was again absent from the dugout for Rangers as he self-isolates, but has kept in contact with assistant Gary McAllister, who also led the team in the Europa League play-off second leg against Alashkert in Armenia on Thursday night.
It was a tough introduction to the Old Firm derby for new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, with his side staying sixth after an inconsistent start to the new campaign.
Meanwhile, Rangers now look to have fully recovered from that rare run of three straight losses and move up to third, one point adrift of early pace-setters Hibernian and Hearts.
