Rangers vow to investigate Chris McKee red card for alleged 'homophobic language'

Rangers have promised to investigate the details behind Chris McKee 's red card after the on-loan striker was sent off for allegedly using 'homophobic language'.

The 19-year-old Northern Ireland youth internationalist was turning out for Brechin City in Sunday afternoon's League Two playoff final against Kelty Hearts, and was given his marching orders by referee Craig Napier on 41 minutes.

It was revealed McKee was adjudged to have used 'foul and abusive language of a homophobic nature' and now his parent club are set to investigate.

And a spokesperson for the Premiership champions said via the Daily Record : “Rangers are aware of an incident involving one of our on-loan academy players during a match this afternoon.

"We will investigate this incident thoroughly and it will be treated with the utmost seriousness.

"As a club, we oppose all forms of discrimination. We will handle this incident robustly.“

McKee is highly thought of in the Gers academy, and signed a new deal with the Ibrox club last November, but it remains to be seen whether or not today's events have a serious impact on his future in Glasgow.
