Rangers v Celtic will 'miss' Scott Brown as Steven Gerrard pays tribute to departing skipper

Steven Gerrard insists Rangers v Celtic games will be poorer without Scott Brown’s presence.

The former Scotland skipper is leaving Parkhead for Aberdeen in the summer and will face his club’s eternal foes for the penultimate time this afternoon in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Prior to the pair’s last meeting in the Scottish Premiership, Brown made a beeline to Glen kamara during the warm up in order to show him support after he suffered racist abuse from Sparta Prague Ondrej Kudela.

It was a gesture that impressed Gerrard, and he believes the biggest fixture in Scottish football will miss Brown’s presence after this season.

He said: "I think it was a real class touch from Scott, I must say.

"When it comes to life and certain things that happen in life, there are things that are bigger than football.

“He’s someone I have got respect for, from a football point of view and for what he has achieved, to be that successful and how he has gone about things.

“If I take my Rangers hat off it’s something I respect very much because I know how hard it is to win.

“I think the fixture will miss him

"Not just him, there are many players over the years who have played their part in the Old Firm derby — many a Rangers player, many a Celtic player.

“Once they move on, it will feel different, and that’s credit to what they have brought and have contributed to that fixture over the years.”
