Rangers travel firm for Lyon blasts 'Get Me Out Of Here' situation as trip remains cancelled for 'kangaroo court' fears

Travel firm Sport Options have had to tell heartbroken Rangers fans they can't risk pressing ahead with plans to take them to Lyon after a week of shambolic planning from the French authorities.

The company have been getting UK-based fans to away days across the continent for 30 years but were dealt a curveball from across the Channel for the Europa League clash.

After weeks of waiting, the Ibrox club finally confirmed last week that their supporters were set to be offered 2,000 tickets for the clash.

Fans scrambled to sort travel to France only to be told on Monday that a "festival of light" taking place in the city meant the interior minister pulled the plug on the police operation for visiting fans.

But 24 hours later that reversal was reversed and as it stands the original allocation is allowed into the Groupama Stadium to cheer on Gio van Bronckhorst's men.

Some have unfortunately already cancelled arrangements though and been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

Sport Options' passengers will be refunded — but they slammed the ridiculous 360 degree turn and said they're fully expecting a "kangaroo court" to call the away day off again.

In a statement, Sport Options said: "It is with huge regret we inform you Sport Options will not reinstate flights to Lyon.

"The situation surrounding this match is like some sort of painful Get Me Out Of Here show, the only thing is this has not been in the least bit funny.

"Just seven days ago we had uncertainty about whether Rangers fans would be allowed to attend. Then with a few days to go a decision was made and communicated to fans 2,000 would be allowed to attend.

“Tickets were sold and then the decision was reversed with less than 72 hours to go before flight departures.

“This was a shambolic situations and we immediately cancelled all arrangements and guaranteed refunds to our customers. Airlines and crews were stood down.

“At no point was there any suggestion from any of the clubs or authorities involved that there was an appeals process or that the decision would be reversed.

“Finally to completely leave fans treated with utter contempt the decision that had already been reversed was reversed again, this time within 48 hours of scheduled departures.

“We also have to consider that some sort of French kangaroo court may still reverse the decision and announce in the morning that fans cannot travel. So, you can see we are in an impossible situation.”
