Rangers transfer news and morning headlines as Halliday outlines what club needs for title bid

Here are your Rangers news headlines for the morning of Friday, 5 June.

Halliday wants three new arrivals

Andy Halliday says Rangers need to add two or three more players of similar quality to Ianis Hagi to land the title next season.

The 28-year-old, who has just departed the Ibrox club, has backed former teammate Hagi to thrive now he's on a permanent deal.

And he's hopeful the club can add another couple of fresh faces.

He told PLZ Soccer : "Hagi is a great signing and if we get another two or three Hagis to go with the squad we have already got then I am hoping and confident that the club can do well.

“I do think we have a strong squad just now and it is those two, three or four bits of quality that can help us on our way.

“In terms of the staff who are there, I am in no doubt they are the people to take the club forward.

“The squad last season was really strong and maybe it was a bit too big but that is understandable because we were going into Europe and we were trying to be competitive in a lot of competitions.

“It is a huge season for Rangers but it is one I am confident they can be competitive and hopefully will win the league.”

Taylor update

Rangers could face competition from a host of clubs, including Celtic, if they want to land Lyle Taylor.

Sky Sports presenter Jim White posted on social media that the Parkhead club had joined the chase for the striker, with the likes of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Brentford also interested.

Taylor, who scored 11 goals in the Championship last season, has been linked with an Ibrox move in recent days and weeks, with his contract at Charlton expiring at the end of this month.

Ferguson on Morelos' importance

Barry Ferguson has used his Daily Record column to talk about how important Alfredo Morelos will be to Rangers' chances of stopping ten in a row next season.

He reckons a "lean and dangerous" Morelos is what Gerrard will want to see when the squad returns to training on Thursday.

Ferguson said: "One look at the physical shape of Alfredo Morelos will tell him everything he needs to know about the mindset of the most valuable player in his team.

"Listen, I really like Morelos. I like his edginess. I like his snarly, scrunched-up wee face because it probably reminds me of my own. Most of all, I like what he can do with a ball at his feet.

"But I do know there is another side to him that sometimes detracts from all that’s good about him as a striker.

"This time last year he looked lean and dangerous. He’d lost a bit of weight over the summer and he was bursting to go. He started the season like a train, scoring nearly 30 goals before the turn of the year. That’s the Morelos Gerrard will want to see walking back in."
