Rangers are aiming to secure Daisuke Yokota for their Europa League match against Jagiellonia Białystok on Thursday night.
According to the Rangers Review, the Hannover 96 winger is nearing a deal with the club.
Yokota is expected to sign a long-term contract after a fee in the region of £2.75million was agreed upon.
This will make him the ninth addition to Derek McInnes’ squad this summer.
The squad was registered with UEFA on Monday for the first leg in Poland, but additions can be made up to 24 hours before kick-off.
This means Yokota could potentially be included in McInnes’ group.
Derek McInnes has previously expressed the need to strengthen the squad, and Yokota will be the latest addition.
The club is also looking to sign players for centre-back and left-back positions.

They are reportedly interested in another winger and had a bid of around £8 million for Frosinone's Farès Ghedjemis rejected by the Serie A club.
The Rangers Review suggests that the club is still considering their options regarding Ghedjemis.
Additionally, Colombian winger Camilo Mena is on their radar, but reports linking Pau winger Giovani Versini with a move to Glasgow are believed to be wide of the mark.
Two bids have been made for Ghedjemis, and Rangers are now assessing their situation.
McInnes is eager to add another option on the right following Oliver Antman’s departure to Anderlecht.
Rangers are also seeking defensive reinforcements.
Olwethu Makhanya is likely to make his debut in Poland this week after Ben Godfrey was ruled out for around four weeks.
