Rangers transfer latest: Ibrox side given go ahead to sign South African midfielder Bongani Zungu

Rangers could be set to reignite their interest in South African international Bongani Zungu after his club lowered their asking price.

The Ibrox side have been given the green light to make a move for the player after Amiens conceded they are going to have to sell. Bernard Joannin, President of the French side, is willing to move down from the £4million valuation previously placed on his head. This asking price had previously put Rangers off a move.

Steven Gerrard has spoken openly in recent weeks about his need for new midfield reinforcements. He said at the weekend this process had to be "accelerated" due to injury problems, with Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

Amiens were relegated from the French top flight last season and Zungu has been linked with moves to Spain and Italy this summer, along with Rangers.

President Joannin said: "Before recruiting anyone else, we have to sell and that means the players who don't want to be here.

"There is no longer any question of keeping players who have their heads elsewhere."

Rangers have also been linked with a move for Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson this summer, although the Deepdale club are believed to want £4million for the player.
