Rangers transfer latest as Steven Gerrard makes youth move with trio set for Ibrox exit

Steven Gerrard's opening message as Ibrox boss was definitive.

"Let's go", was the Rangers manager's war cry last summer and that statement of intent encapsulates their fast start to the transfer window this season.

Joe Aribo will join George Edmundson, Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones, Steven Davis and Jake Hastie at Ibrox after agreeing a four-year deal.

Deals for seven new players means Gerrard has a squad of over 30 senior pros to choose from. Such plentiful options means players will be heading out the door in the coming weeks.

And three Rangers charges appear to be facing a bleak future at Ibrox. Graham Dorrans , Kyle Lafferty and Eros Grezda weren't on the plane for the club's pre-season training camp to Portugal.

Jason Holt also didn't travel but the former Hearts midfielder was never expected to earn the chance after being sent out on loan last season to Fleetwood.

But Gerrard's big call has provided five younsgters with a huge opportunity, and all of them are desperate to make the breakthrough at Ibrox.

Dapo Mebude, Stephen Kelly, Josh McPake, Jamie Barjonas and Lewis Mayo trained on Sunday, aiming to convince the Rangers boss that further signings aren't needed.

Gerrard , calling on his own experiences as a player at Anfield, made it a priority to integrate the stars of tomorrow within the senior squad last season.

Rising stars were given the chance to mix it with first-team regulars during training sessions and the five in the mix could see their opportunities enhanced with a strong showing in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Gary McAllister has backed new boy Sheyi Ojo to light up Ibrox, insisting he has the mentality to be a success at Rangers.

The 22-year-old winger arrived on loan from Liverpool after signing a new long-term deal at Anfield.

The Ibrox No.2 said: “Sheyi ticks a lot of boxes in modern football. He’s technically outstanding, left sided and has pace and power.

“And he’s got experience now as well. Sheyi has been on loan at some good clubs and played in tough leagues.

“So we’re bringing a player with plenty of experience behind him.

“He has also worked under expectation levels at Liverpool that are similar to here. He won’t be caught out with the Rangers fans’ demands.

“He knows the gaffer and Michael Beale from Anfield, as well as Jordan Milsom and Tommy Culshaw who were also at Liverpool.

“We crossed paths in my first few weeks back at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers before he went out on loan.

“So he has some familiar faces to work with at Rangers and knows a few of the players.

“He spoke with Ovie and Kenty about this move and that’s why he signed.

“They gave the club a big up so that he would come here and we’re delighted.”
