Rangers transfer latest as Joe Aribo and George Edmundson bids move forward

Liverpool rookie Sheyi Ojo is set to sign a loan deal with Rangers on Tuesday.

The winger arrived at Auchenhowie today as Steven Gerrard’s squad began their first day of pre-season training.

Ojo spent the day finalising his season-long move to become the fifth signing of the summer.

The 21-year-old has played eight times for Liverpool’s first team and the Ibrox move will be his fourth loan.

Rangers are still working on deals for Charlton’s Joe Aribo and Oldham’s George Edmundson before flying out for a pre-season camp in Portugal this weekend.

Peterborough chief Darragh MacAnthony, meanwhile, has taken to Twitter to explain why his club has pulled out of a deal for a player believed to be Ibrox target Edmundson.

The Posh were reported last week to have done a deal for the centre-back who has also been subject of failed bids from Ibrox.

Gerrard has seen two offers for the 21-year-old knocked back by Oldham who initially were reported to have reached agreement with Peterborough.

MacAnthony responded last Tuesday to knock down those reports and it was later claimed Portsmouth had an offer accepted.

Now the Posh chief has taken a pop at the transfer shenanigans over the “CB from L2 club we’ve been constantly linked with” and that Posh had agreed a fee and were given “permission to speak to player/agent over eight days ago”.

MacAnthony then said “Plan was for player to come to club last Friday for medical and contract discussions.”

He went on: “Three days prior a story leaked we’d agreed a fee” but “36 hours before this meeting with player, club contacts us to state deal is off unless we pay more blah blah. I won’t budge as a deal is a deal.

“We’re then told we’re no longer allowed meet player unless we renegotiate with his club. I won’t do it. So I’m now officially pulling us from deal.”
