Rangers transfer latest as Frank Castaneda linked after Colombian helped stun Real Madrid

Rangers are reportedly on the trail of Colombian striker Frank Castaneda.

The 27-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol where he was club captain.

Castaneda was part of the Sheriff side who helped stun European giants Real Madrid with a Champions League win in the Santiago Bernabeu.

But they did not renew his contract and, according to the Sunday Post, the Scottish Premiership champions are weighing up a move.

Castaneda started his career in South America at Venezuelan outfit Caracas before returning to his homeland with Orsomarso.

Like current Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, he was then given his chance to move to Europe when he joined Slovakian outfit Senica.

He spent two seasons there before moving to Moldova last summer and played his part in that historic win in Spain.

According to reports, Castaneda has options in from Turkish side Samsunspor, Italians Empoli and Salernitana, Sochi in Russia and Germans Augsburg.

Speculation has continually surrounded Morelos but he has rediscovered his best form under Gio van Bronckhorst and could play alongside Castaneda if any move did materialise.

Rangers are also chasing defenders John Souttar and Dutch stopper Danilho Doekhi.
