Rangers transfer bulletin as Niko Katic has Dinamo Zagreb option and Joey Veerman reality sets in

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has never been one to use his poker face when it comes to transfers both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

And the Ibrox boss admitted just before the deal for Juninho Bacuna that incomings would be at a minimum before the window closes.

But that doesn't mean the current status quo at Rangers will remain – with several fringe players in the mix to seal either a temporary or permanent exits.

Nikola Katic is one player who the club want to get regular game time for with the 24-year-old continuing his recovery from a horror knee injury suffered in 2020.

Italian side Spezia were linked but they have filled their defensive need and now the Croatia U21 international could be set for a return to his homeland.

And not just any club. Daily outlet Sportske Novosti state Dinamo Zagreb are weighing up a move for a player who is hell-bent on getting back to his best.

But Gerrard and Ross Wilson will likely weigh up the merits of the switch if it means Katic's game time is reduced. The Ibrox side don't want to lose the commanding stopper on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, the ongoing Joey Veerman saga continues with AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen admitting his side would join the chase to sign the Ibrox target.

Rangers are long-term admirers but he remains with the Eredivisie club despite several bids from Hellas Verona for the 22-year-old.

But Jansen – speaking ahead of his side's Europa League play off clash with Celtic – admits the cultured playmaker could well be out of his price range.

He said: "I think Joey is a very good player. Whether we can pay him? I really don't know. If you ask my opinion about Joey.

"I say that I think that is a very good player. But no more than that."
