Rangers transfer activity expected to ramp up as Barry Ferguson urges them to keep 'game changer'

Barry Ferguson expects Rangers to ramp up their transfer activity over the next few weeks after the capture of Fashion Sakala.

The Zambian has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Premiership champions and will put pen to paper on a four-year deal later this summer.

Steven Gerrard has already been planning next season’s title defence, as well as a maiden Champions League campaign in the Ibrox dugout.

Ferguson has been swotting up on Sakala and is confident there will be more new faces joining him in the not to distant future.

He told Go Radio: "When I saw it a week ago that we were going to sign him (Sakala) I did a bit of homework on him.

"He is a good centre-forward - but there is a difference between playing there in Belgium and coming to Glasgow Rangers with the demands and expectations that are put on you.

"That's a great thing - and don't be surprised, over the coming weeks you'll see another one or two coming through the door."

Even more important as far as Ferguson is concerned is keeping a hold of Ryan Kent.

The club plan to offer him a bumper new contract in a bid to deter potential suitors, with Leeds United considering another go at tempting Rangers into selling after having a bid knocked back last summer.

Ferguson added: "If there's one player Rangers really need to keep it's Ryan Kent - they've got to.

"I know there will be clubs down south that want him and they've got so much money. But I'm sure the manager knows if he's going to lose one player, he's got to make sure it's not Ryan Kent.

"He's shown over the last few months a real level of consistency to his game.

"He is a game changer, a match winner - he's been exceptional.

"We just need to keep a hold of him, it's so important that Rangers try to do that."
