Takeaways and observations from the Texas Rangers' 8-5 win over Los Angeles Saturday night:
_Go-Go: Carlos Gomez became the eighth different Rangers leadoff hitter of the season with flair. He homered on the first pitch of the game off Daniel Wright. In the fourth inning, he hit a two-out, two-run home run. It was the fourth multi-homer game of Gomez's career and the first since July 8, 2015 when he was with Milwaukee.
_Deadline dividends: The Rangers continue to get big mileage out of their trade deadline and post-deadline deals. They scored eight runs Saturday. One scored on a wild pitch and another on Adrian Beltre's bloop single . The six runs that were attached to RBIs were all driven in by guys who were other clubs' property on July 31: Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy, who each had three RBIs.
_Cole powered: Cole Hamels didn't promise he'd be able to work out all of his recent issues in one start, but did make strides with his, um, stride. He held the Angels to four hits over six innings, though it took him 110 pitches to do so. His six-inning, two-run effort was his 20th quality start of the season. He has had at least 20 quality starts in seven consecutive seasons.
