Alan Hutton thinks Rangers need to sign at least six or seven players to bridge the gap with Celtic next season.
The Ibrox club currently sit 17 points behind their city rivals going into the final three matchdays of the Scottish Premiership season.
Rangers have failed to sustain a title fight at any point in the campaign, and have been chasing since day one, having dropped points in their season-opener against Heart of Midlothian.

Hutton reckons a wealth of work needs to be done at his old club this summer.
The full-back made over 100 Rangers appearances after coming through the academy.
Hutton was speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest football odds, he said: "Do Rangers need to bring in six or seven players? Yeah, absolutely. The big thing for me is it's going to take more than one window. It's not going to happen overnight, this change.
"I think there's probably a lot of players that now probably need to move on. They need more experience within the team, more leaders within the team that know what it's all about, and how difficult it's going to be to bridge that gap to Celtic.
"So, yeah, they need first and foremost the manager and the right people round about in the background and then start to build.
"This is going to be a long term project, not short term."
Rangers return to action this weekend when they welcome Aberdeen to Ibrox for their penultimate home game of the season.
Barry Ferguson has yet to win a home match at the helm as the Pittodrie outfit make the trip down to Glasgow.
