Rangers to welcome European giants Real Madrid to Ibrox for pre-season friendly

Rangers have announced they will host European giants Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox on Sunday, July 25.

Los Blancos make the journey to Scotland for what will be the Gers' final game of the off-season before competitive football begins six days later.

13-time Champions of Europe Real Madrid, led by Carlo Ancelotti, are part of a Rangers pre-season schedule that sees them celebrate becoming the first major European club to reach the milestone of 150 years.

Only once before have Rangers welcomed Madrid to Govan and that meeting came in the 1963/64 season in the first round of the European Cup.

Over 80,000 packed in to Ibrox that day and fans watched the Gers fall to a 1-0 defeat with the goal coming from the great Ferenc Puskas.

The return leg was followed by a 6-0 loss at the Bernabeu for Rangers with football legend Puskas netting a hat-trick on that night with Real going on to reach the final.

It is set to be a big test for Steven Gerrard’s side ahead of their UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Rangers other July pre-season fixtures will see them come up against Tranmere, Arsenal, Blackpool and Brighton.

Fans can watch all the pre-season games live on RangersTV.
