Rangers to return to prestigious Hong Kong Sevens tournament

Rangers will take a team to the prestigious Hong Kong Sevens tournament once again.

The Ibrox side have been regulars in the Far East in recent years in both the main and masters tournament.

They finished as runner's up last time around with Newcastle winning the final 1-0.

Last year's Rangers team included Jamie Barjonas, Stephen Kelly, Liam Burt, Kyle Bradley and Jordan Houston who have all played first team football for the club.

This year could see some of Steven Gerrard's brightest young prospects such as Dapo Mebude, Josh McPake and others make their way to the tournament.

Newcastle will also return to the tournament, as will fellow English Premier League sides Leicester, Brighton, West Ham, Wolves and Fulham.

Rangers head of youth Craig Mulholland said: “Two years ago, we reached the semi-final, last year we lost to Newcastle in the final so this year we hope to go one step further."

The tournament will take place in Hong Kong between May 17 and 19.

Rangers have experienced success in youth tournaments already this season, winning the Alkass International Cup in Qatar.
