Rangers to play in front of FULL Ibrox against Malmo and Celtic after Council green lights maximum capacity return

Rangers are set to be roared on by a full Ibrox Stadium for their massive Champions League qualifying return leg against Malmo.

And Steven Gerrard’s Light Blues will play in front of capacity crowds for all of their following fixtures, subject to Glasgow City Council approval.

Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier this week that Council chiefs would give Rangers and Celtic the green light for full stadiums after Nicola Sturgeon said in her statement that permission would be needed for crowds over over 5000 at outside events.

That means a bumper crowd for the first Old Firm derby of the season against Celtic in Govan on August 29.

It’s a huge boost for Rangers and their season ticket holders who were locked out for the whole of last season.

That means supporters missed out on the chance to see their heroes make history as they won their first league title in a decade.

Fans haven’t been inside the stadium since a 2-1 Europa League defat to Bayer Leverkusen before Covid brought the world to a halt.

Rangers postponed the traditional unfurling of the league flag from the opening day of the league season until the visit of Motherwell next month.

Gerrard called on the fans to play their part in helping his side overturn a 2-1 deficit from their qualifier against Malmo.

And the club said in a statement: “Rangers can confirm there will be a full capacity at Ibrox Stadium going forward, subject to conditions prescribed by the Safety Advisory Group of Glasgow City Council.

“The ticket office will be in contact with season tickets holders today to confirm the process for ticket allocation for Tuesday’s match v Malmö.

“We cannot wait to hear you roaring, from the stands of Ibrox Park.”
