Rangers to improve George Edmundson bid as they look to sign Oldham defender

Rangers are set to make an improved bid for Oldham defender George Edmundson after he put in a transfer request.

Steven Gerrard’s side have already had one offer of £400,000 turned down but are likely to go back in with £500,000 plus add-ons.

Ibrox director of football Mark Allen is waiting to see what Oldham’s response is to Edmundson’s decision to ask for a transfer over the weekend before they make their next move.

Oldham have slapped a £1million price tag on their prize asset but Rangers won’t go anywhere near that valuation and won’t be held to ransom.

Edmundson, 21, was named in the English
Football League Two team of the year and is keen on a move to Ibrox.

Several sides in the English Championship are also interested and have made offers, including Hull City and Stoke City, while the likes of Wigan Athletic and Derby County are also monitoring Edmundson’s situation.

Rangers are also interested in 22-year-old Hearts stopper John Souttar but that deal would be more expensive and harder to thrash out with the Jambos power brokers.
