Rangers 'to face' Liverpool in pre-season friendly with Steven Gerrard set for Anfield return

Rangers are set to play Liverpool in a pre-season friendly, according to a report.

The Ibrox side will reportedly travel to Anfield for the game in July, which will see Steven Gerrard return to his old club.

Liverpool fan site This Is Anfield say the game is penned in for July and will see Rangers take on the Premier League outfit.

It comes at a time when Rangers are also due to face Arsenal at Ibrox as part of their 150th celebrations.

Liverpool had 10,000 fans inside Anfield for their final Premier League game of the season and the friendly could be used to test a full capacity Anfield.

Rangers are unlikely to jet off anywhere for a pre-season trip like they normally do because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but Gerrard could take his squad south of the border for the game.

It will also be a return to Anfield for Ryan Kent, with the winger making one appearance for his first club before a £7m move to Ibrox in 2019 following a successful loan spell.

A number of Gerrard's backroom staff, including Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milson have all been involved at Liverpool as well.
