Legia Warsaw set up a Europa League play-off clash with the winners of Rangers qualifying tie with Midtjylland by downing Atromitos in Greece.
The Polish giants had drawn the home leg 0-0, meaning any goal in the away tie would put them in the driving seat.
And they did just that before the half-hour mark, when Pawel Stolarski fired home the opener, meaning their opponents needed to get two goals to make it through to the play-off round.
Legia put the tie beyond doubt when Valerian Gvilia scored six minutes after the break to ensure they would make it comfortably through to the next round of qualifiers.
Rangers still have work to do on their side, but hold a good advantage of Midtjylland after the Premiership outfit the Danish side 4-2 in Denmark last week.
Steven Gerrard 's side take on the Superliga outfit on Thursday night at Ibrox, knowing that a win or draw would guarantee they make the play-off round, as they look to qualify for the group stages of the competition for the second season in a row.
But the Rangers boss knows not to underestimate his opponents, especially after Celtic were dumped out of the Champions League.
Speaking before the game, he said: "Some of these teams that people don't know much about - Cluj from Romania, for example, or Midtjylland from Denmark - they carry a huge threat.
"They're so desperate for financial reasons to progress, like most of us, so my players need to take note of last night and make sure we deal with our second leg much better."
