Rangers to face Antwerp Europa League wildcard as controversial striker set to be unleashed at Ibrox

Royal Antwerp have added controversial striker Didier Lamkel Ze to their squad for the Europa League clash with Rangers.

The Belgians welcome Steven Gerrard's side on February 18 for the first leg of the Last 32 tie before heading to Ibrox a week later.

Previous boss Ivan Leko had left Lamkel Ze out of the European squad but new Antwerp manager Frank Vercauteren has opted to include the controversial striker for the tie with Rangers.

He sparked fury in January after turning up to the club's training ground wearing an Anderlecht shirt and promised to wear the colours of rivals Beerschot the following day.

The stunt was a bid to force through a transfer to Panathinaikos.

That prompted two unscheduled visits from the club's hardcore fans to training to confront the player, with Belgian riot police deployed for their second appearance.

The Cameroon international was reinstated to the squad after an injury crisis and scored the winner against Cercle Brugge.

His team-mates refused to celebrate with him, as Vercauteren admitted: "He said: "We had two of our players call off just before the game, so Lamkel had to play. He did what he was asked to do and obviously greatly contributed with his goal.

"The players here have freedom of speech. I understand they wanted to express themselves and didn't want to congratulate him.

"But my job is to look after the interests and needs of this team. I would rather every match is not about this."

Lamkel Ze is still to serve a suspension so won't play in Antwerp but he could be included for the return leg at Ibrox.
