Rangers' title fluke will never be repeated because Celtic thrive under crowd pressure – Hotline

Celtic supporters reckon the Ange Postecouglou revolution is gathering pace and has been boosted by fan power.

The punters were back in Parkhead to see their side swat aside Jablonec to reach the Europa League play-offs while Rangers are still licking their wounds following their Malmo misery.

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “Jock Stein was spot on when he said football is nothing without fans. Celtic could not handle it last season in empty stadiums but the atmosphere at Celtic Park was akin to Celtic having 12 men on the park. Momentum is going through the roof and revenge is on the agenda against Hearts on Sunday.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Another tremendous performance from Celtic apart from switching off a bit in the second half when the tie was won.

“Our attacking play is looking the best I’ve seen in years with so much pace and flare it’s a joy to watch. Defence still needs to be added too but early as it may be I think it’s exciting times ahead.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “How much proof is needed that last season was a fluke title for Rangers? The moment fans are back we return to being Scotland’s best team while Rangers crumble under the Ibrox pressure.”

But David Bryce, Troon, said: “Celtic were thrilling at times the other night however the performance dipped dramatically when the subs were introduced. Ismaila Soro’s second touch is a diving header and Ajeti is hopeless.

“Even though we’re improving under Ange I think AZ will be a step too far. They will take advantage of a defence that takes too many chances.”

Gers fans don’t quite see it the same as Celts, funnily enough.

Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “Lance Little has a cheek to call Rangers fans glory hunters after booing the team off the park the other night. Last season, Celtic supporters caused trouble at the gates of Parkhead after the league cup loss to Ross County while their 10 in a row dreams went up in smoke.

“It was clear they could not deal with things turning against them last season.”

Stuart McLeod, via email, said: “What a delusional bunch these Celtic supporters are. We are now being told this is the worst European result ever. Do their minds not go back any further than this week. Midjyitland was only the other week a below average team.

“We won’t mention last season's European debacle either. Scottish teams have all struggled in recent seasons, Rangers are not alone in that respect, in fact their recent exploits in Europe have benefited the country’s co-efficient.”

Meanwhile Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Caller Sam Ruddock said Celtic’s players are going for a pittance. Yeah, £12m plus for Frimpong, £18m plus for Ajer and a profit on Kilmala. Meanwhile Rangers couldn’t flog a dead horse.”

Aberdeen didn’t say much about going through but there was agony for St Johnstone and Hibs. Saints gave Galatasaray a game and have the Euro Conference to fall back on.

It was a sore one for the Easter Road men but Kevin Lord, Edinburgh, said: “I know it’s a blow in terms of finance, but as a fan, I realise Hibs do not have the resources to compete in Europe and domestically.

"Rather they continue to progress in league status than struggle to compete in all fronts due to a meaningless, non-status building Euro tournament.”
